Customer Questions & Answers

Can't find the answer you need? Ask a Question
I have a non-rectangular area I need to cover. Can you help me figure out the number of tiles and edges needed?
- Stanley O.

Sure thing!  We'd be happy to help you calculate the number deck tiles needed to properly cover you space.  You can email/fax us a rough hand drawing with the dimensions or we can also discuss everything over the phone.  Although it may seem a little daunting at first, figuring out the number of duragrid tiles and beveled edges will be quick and easy and putting everyting together is a snap!

I have a 30" x 30" shower. Can I cut down the 36" x 36" set to properly fit my space?
- Candace S.

Absolutely!  These interlocking shower tiles can easily be cut to fit with a utility (razor) knife and a straight edge (to help ensure a straight cut).  If the tiles are butting up against the walls of the shower then edges aren't even necessary.

I'm using these tiles in a covered outdoor shower area. Do I still want the outdoor version of these tiles?
- Olivia N.

The Outdoor Duragrid Deck Tiles are suggested for covering large areas outside.  The reason is that the Outdoor version of these tiles is rigid and won't expand and contract like the indoor version would during more extreme temperature changes.  If, however, the tiles are covering a small area (like an outdoor shower) or are not going wall-to-wall (where there's no room for expansion) then using the Indoor version outdoors would work just fine.

Can wheels (including wheelchairs) easily and safely traverse across these tiles?
- Christopher C.

Certainly - although there is a slight texture on the top surface for added traction, wheels big and small, including those on wheelchairs and walkers, can easily roll across these tiles without issue.

We want to use these drainage tiles in an industrial setting. Can we roll heavy loads across the tiles without damaging them?
- Michael M.

These Duragrid Deck Matting Tiles can hold over 1000lbs per square foot and thus should easily be able to withstand the weight of many pieces of equipment, heavy loads, etc.

We have moisture issues in our basement and wanted to put these tiles down and then install flooring on top of the tiles. Any issue with doing so?
- Kenny L.

You can safely use these tiles as a primary flooring solution to elevate everyone and everything 1/2" off the floor if moisture persists in your space.  Applying secondary flooring, placing furniture on top, covering with vinyl flooring, rugs or just about anything else should not pose any issue to either the drainage tiles or the material above.

Are Duragrid drainage tiles able to be power washed?
- Jim M.

Yes, you can certainly power wash these tiles as often as you wish without it harming or degrading the tiles (though this level of cleaning typically isn't necessary).

The concrete around the pool as well as the tile in the lockerrooms aren't perfect - there are hairline cracks, a few small (2" x 2") tiles missing here and there and a few pockmarks in the concrete. Will that be a problem when installing the tiles?
- Steve L.

Slight unevenness, minor cracks, and imperfections are not a problem for these tiles.  You will still be able to safely install and use these drainage tiles without having to repair the floor first.

Can you place these tiles under a dunk tank in an amusement park? Would it be a problem if cars occasionally drive over them?
- Jeff B.

We would suggest using the Outdoor version of these drainage tiles, which can be used under a filled dunk tank and even handle the weight of a car being driven over them.

Would these tiles work if installed 'wall to wall' in the back of a fishing boat for added drainage and traction? Right now the fiberglass is worn and slippery.
- Mark M.

Certainly - the Outdoor version of these tiles would work well for increasing slip resistance and allowing water to easily drain under foot on a boat.

We have a hot tub and a steam room and were thinking of using these drainage tiles. Would they handle the heat and constant moisture fine? What about mold?
- Maureen M.

Duragrid Deck Matting Tiles are perfect for use around any wet area including pools, hot tubs, showers, steam rooms and saunas.  The tiles can easily withstand a range of temperatures and won't become damaged or degraded with constant exposure.  These drainage tiles are inherently mold- and mildew-resistant and would resist bacterial growth.

Do I need to use the male and female edges?
- Alan T.

The edging is only needed if someone wants a more gradual transition on and off the tiles and they're not being installed up against the wall (or any other structure) where people wouldn't step on and off the tiles.  Due to their low profile design, these drainage tiles don't pose a major tripping hazard.

My pool deck gets really hot in the sun - will these tiles be more comfortable to walk on?
- George B.

These drainage tiles will still get warm on a very hot day but not as hot as a typical concrete or tile floor would.  Due to the raised construction, air easily flows underneath the tiles helping to keep the tiles even cooler (compared to typical pool flooring surfaces which retain heat).  Color is also important and, if hot floors are a current concern, black tiles would not be ideal as this color gets the warmest.
