Cocoa Mats

Cocoa Matting is constructed from coconut husk fibers secured in heavy-duty vinyl backing. This process makes cocoa mats ideal scraper mats, which effectively remove dirt, debris and moisture from shoes. Coco matting is a time-tested and durable form of entrance matting.

• These floor mats are quite resilient and greatly resist wear.

• The deep pile coco mat construction traps and holds dirt particles below the surface.

• Natural color available in 1/2", 5/8", 3/4", 1" & 1 1/4" thicknesses. All other colors available only 3/4" thick.

• Call for optional beveled edging and trim options.

• Ideal for moderate to heavy-traffic, indoor / covered outdoor areas.

Customer Questions & Answers

Can't find the answer you need? Ask a Question
Can I use a coco mat on my covered porch to get off mud and grime?
- Nelly F.

Certainly - Cocoa Mats are excellent mats for aggressively scraping shoes and boots to remove mud, gravel, snow, salts and other debris.  The natural coir fibers act like a deck brush to get into the grooves of shoes and thoroughly clean them.

Can I cut the coco to fit my vestibule area so it covers the space wall to wall?
- Fran A.

Certainly!  Cocoa matting can easily be cut using a utility (razor) knife with a sharp blade and, for straight cuts, either a ruler or straight edge.  The mat can be cut from the top side but may be easier to first measure the space, mark the part to be cut off on the underside with a pencil and then cut from the back.  Some shedding on the cut edge is normal (and no bare spots will appear).

Do you offer custom sizes and shapes for the cocoa mats?
- Ricky M.

Although the matting can be cut on site, we're happy to offer custom widths, custom lengths and custom shapes.  Send us a message or call us for pricing.  Custom mats typically ship in just a few days.

How do I know which thickness I should use?
- Edgardo D.

Good question!  All colors (those other than Natural) only come in one thickness (which is approximately 3/4").  The Natural color is available 1/2", 5/8", 3/4", 1" and 1-1/4" thick.  The price is the same regardless of thickness chosen.  If being used in a recess (depression in the floor) than the thickness of the mat should closely match the depth of the recess.  If being used on top of the ground/standard floor, the mat should be low enough for a door to swing over it.  Beyond that, it's really the customer's preference.  Some prefer a thicker mat though it's important to be cognizant of the height difference between the mat and the surrounding floor.  Whether a 1/2", a 1-1/4" or any thickness in between is chosen, the cocoa matting will hold up just as well and be equally effective at cleaning shoes.

Will dirt and water drain through the coco mat?
- Edwin M.

These commercial-grade cocoa mats are constructed slightly differently from residential cocoa matting.  One of the main differences between the two is that the coir fibers are vertically embedded in a durable vinyl backing so that they stick straight up in this commercial-grade version (whereas the coco fibers are longer and interwoven in a traditional residential version and thus do not use a solid backing).  So, to answer the question, these cocoa floor mats would not allow dirt, debris or moisture to flow through.

What exactly are coco mats made of? I heard they're a naturally occurring fabric.
- Adam D.

These Cocoa Mats are manufactured from coir fibers (the husks of coconuts) and then embedded in a heavy-duty, non-reactive vinyl backing that's safe to use on virtually any flooring surface.  This backing catches dirt/water/debris from falling through the mat while angling the cocoa fibers vertically to more aggressively scrape the bottom of shoes and boots.

How do you clean these coir mats?
- Dirk B.

Cocoa Mats aggressively scrape dirt and debris from shoes which then fall into the mat and get trapped so as not to get tracked inside.  The most effective way to clean these mats is to shake them out/beat them just like you'd beat an area rug.  Of course, they can also be vacuumed for day-to-day dust and dirt.  For a deeper cleaning, coco matting can also be sprayed with a hose and air dried.

It's like a wind tunnel in my apartment complex. Will these mats blow away on really windy days?
- Jason M.

Cocoa mats are pretty sturdy and quite stable and should stay in place on the floor even during very windy days.
